Two Greenwich Village Parks Host Free Weekly 5K Parkruns Saturday
Saturday 5K events at two Village parks give residents structured outdoor exercise without fees or equipment costs.
How we reported this

Washington Square Park launches its weekly parkrun at 9 a.m. each Saturday from the central fountain area, drawing 180 to 220 finishers on average since the event began in March 2024.
Outdoor fitness routines gained renewed attention this summer as city health data showed a 12 percent rise in adult physical activity levels between May and June 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to New York City Department of Health tracking. Residents seek free, recurring group runs that fit around work schedules and require only basic running shoes.
Washington Square Park and the southern section of Hudson River Park along West Street both host official parkrun events. The Washington Square course loops the park perimeter twice before finishing near the arch. Hudson River Park’s event starts at Pier 26 and follows the Greenway path north to Pier 34 and back, offering river views and fewer turns.
Course details and times
Both events remain free and open to all ages and paces. Runners must register once at parkrun.com and print or download a personal barcode to receive timed results. The Washington Square start time is fixed at 9 a.m.; Hudson River Park begins at 8:30 a.m. to avoid midday heat. On June 27 the Washington Square event recorded 197 finishers with a median time of 28 minutes 14 seconds.
Practical steps before Saturday
Arrive 15 minutes early to complete a volunteer-led warm-up at either site. Bring water and a light layer for the post-run cool-down near the registration table. First-time participants can review the course map on the parkrun app the night before. The next events occur July 11 at both locations.
