Flushing Launches Four Charity Runs and Fitness Walks Through July
Flushing residents can sign up for group runs and walks at parks and streets across the neighborhood through the rest of July.
How we reported this

Three community fitness events open for registration this week in Flushing, starting with a charity 5K at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on July 15.
Summer heat and longer daylight hours have pushed more residents outdoors for group exercise, and local organizers report steady sign-ups since early June. The events give participants a chance to train together on familiar routes rather than alone on treadmills.
Events at Flushing Meadows and Kissena Park
The Flushing Runners Club will lead the July 15 charity 5K, which starts at the park's Meadow Lake entrance and loops along the perimeter path before finishing near the Unisphere. Proceeds go to the Queens Community Food Bank. On July 20, the same group hosts a shorter charity walk that begins at Kissena Park's 164th Street gate and follows the bike path toward the lake. Both events require advance registration through the club website.
A separate evening group run organized by the Downtown Flushing Wellness Program takes place every Tuesday at 7 p.m. along Roosevelt Avenue, starting from the corner of Main Street and ending at the Flushing Library steps after three miles. The program added two extra dates in July after last month's sessions filled within 48 hours.
Registration details and costs
The July 15 5K charges a $30 entry fee that includes a numbered bib and post-event water and fruit. Last year's edition drew 850 finishers, according to club records. The Tuesday runs cost $10 per session or $40 for a four-week pass. Participants must be 18 or older and show proof of a recent physical at check-in.
Anyone planning to join should register online by July 12 for the 5K and by July 18 for the park walk. Local medical professionals at clinics along Main Street recommend checking blood pressure and joint health before the first session, especially for those new to group distances.
