Under the same formula, Syracuse receives funding for 31 chargers despite having 38,000 fewer residents than Brooklyn Community District 2, which encompasses DUMBO. Rochester's allocation totals 24 stations because its 2025 inventory showed only 14 public chargers per 10,000 residents. The Department of Transportation projects DUMBO will reach 41 public chargers per 10,000 residents by the end of 2028, compared with 52 in Syracuse.
The state budget paper accompanying the act lists the first round of requests for proposals opening on September 15, 2026, with construction contracts expected to be awarded by March 2027. Local utilities must complete interconnection reviews within 90 days of each site selection.
