Bronx Implements Road Closures, Transit Projects Across 70 Stations

As of July 2026 the Bronx-bound right lane on the Cross Bronx Expressway remains closed from 7am to 3pm while the Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge undergoes intermittent full closures for structural repairs.

Current Road Restrictions

These restrictions affect daily travel on major routes that connect neighborhoods across the borough. Drivers and transit users must adjust routes during morning and early afternoon hours when the Cross Bronx Expressway lane is shut. The intermittent bridge closures add further variability to trips that use the Hutchinson River Parkway.

Public Transit Reliance

Approximately 61.6 percent of Bronx households lack access to a car, which places added pressure on the subway and bus network. The borough is served by seven subway lines-the 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, B and D-with 70 stations plus an extensive network of MTA, Express and Bee-Line buses. Three Select Bus Service routes operate along Fordham Road and Pelham Parkway, Webster Avenue, and the south Bronx crosstown corridor.

Infrastructure Projects Underway

Phase III bus lane improvements continue on the 149th Street corridor. The Hunts Point Access Improvement Project on the Bruckner Expressway was scheduled for completion in fall 2025. These efforts aim to ease congestion and support bus reliability on key corridors.
